Emmanuel Macron talks to WIRED about France’s AI strategy

Feb. 25, 2018

This interview with Emmanuel Macron discussing his AI strategy for France can be an excuse to talk about AI in general, even if your learners are not French.

You could use this worksheet in a one-to-one class, but I find that it works best in a jigsaw reading activity with groups of at least 6 students.

The main activity will resemble jigsaw reading, though it is not your classic 'find-the-missing-facts' exercise. To begin, split the interview into separate sections (a question with its answer = one section; there are 13 of them altogether). Depending on the number of students you have, hand the 13 snippets out to either individual students or pairs. With smaller classes you can give up to 3 sections per pair (or 2 per student). Unless your classes take 90 minutes or longer, you might find that there are too many questions to go over everything in one lesson. If this is the case, you can drop a few questions of your choice. If the level of your class is fairly low, you might prefer to have them work in pairs. Make sure to walk around the classroom monitoring students' work and offering help.

How you check Task 3 will again depend on the size of your class. With small groups you can have everyone present their passage in open class, while with larger classes grouping two or three pairs together will keep the exercise short and more dynamic.

Time-permitting you can do Task 4 in class or set it as homework.
