As the retirement age is increasing across the globe, we tend to see a larger span of generations in companies. This may create intergenerational frictions, but also opportunities for creating diverse, thriving teams, as we learn from this TED talk.
This lesson is based on a TED talk given by a Millennial fresh graduate. The speaker enumerates the characteristics of a typical Millennial at the start of his or her career and juxtaposes them with the traits usually exhibited by Generation X.
The worksheet for his lesson is fairly structured, which will allow students that usually have difficulties understanding spoken English (spoken at a natural, rather fast pace) to analyse the TED talk bit by bit. All the exercises can be done at home without teacher's assistance, but it can go down well with a small group, too. If you decide to set this material as homework, it will be less artificial and more interesting for the student(s) to tell you about the content of the talk without looking at the worksheet. Do check the vocabulary exercises by asking your students to make their own sentences with the words and expressions featured in Tasks 1 - 3.
