Prompted by the video in this lesson, your students won't need much encouragement to engage in a heated debate about the next World Cup, whether they are avid football fans or not.
In this lesson football and the 2022 World Cup are merely an excuse to tackle such serious issues as human rights and modern day slavery.
As usual, the worksheet provides a framework for a discussion and highlights the key language from the video. You may pick and choose the exercises that you find suitable for your class and skip others. You will not find discussion questions per se on the worksheet - asking students an open question like "How do you feel about this report?" will surely be enough to start a multi-thread discussion.
You will, on the other hand, find vocabulary prompts to introduce your learners to key (Task I) and/or potentially difficult (Task II) vocabulary. If your students' level is at least B1+ they will be able to handle all the exercises. Otherwise, feel free to skip Task II, which features some low-frequency words and phrases. It might be worth spending more time on the last task - listening out for numbers, as especially large numbers often prove to be tricky for pre-intermediate/lower-intermediate students.
